When Does Your Pet Need a Dental Check-Up?
- Smelly breath
- Eating less than usual
- Lots of drool
- Teeth that seem to shake or click together (especially in cats)
- Swelling under their eye (especially in dogs)
- Yellow or brown buildup on their teeth
- Teeth that look stained
- Being tired or less active than normal
If you've seen any of these, your pet might need their teeth cleaned. Just like us, pets benefit from yearly dental cleanings to stay healthy. At Caring Hands Animal Hospital, we have the latest tools to take great care of your pet's teeth.
At Caring Hands Animal Hospital, we offer regular, cleaning appointments to help prevent dental problems. Our dental cleaning session include making a complete map of your pet's mouth, noting each tooth. We check for gum disease by carefully measuring the little spaces around the gums. Using ultrasonic scaling, we remove tartar and plaque from their teeth. Then, we polish their teeth until they are smooth and shiny. Finally, we put on fluoride treatment/plaque retardant to protect their teeth from future plaque buildup.
Advanced Dental Care
We also use digital x-rays of your pet's mouth to find gum disease that might be hidden below the gum line and to see which teeth might need to be taken out. Your pets might have problems that can be hidden where we can't see them just by looking, but x-rays can help us find them. Our dental surgery services include removing teeth, taking small samples of growths in the mouth for testing, and trimming away extra gum tissue.
