Fear Free Veterinary Care
The Value of Fear Free Practices
Reducing Pet Stress During Transport
- Leaving the carrier in a frequently visited area.
- Placing familiar bedding inside, like their favorite blanket or something with your scent.
- Daily placement of treats, toys, or catnip inside to encourage them to enter voluntarily.
- Choose a carrier with a large opening that allows access from the front and top, making it easier to place and remove your cat.
- Select a carrier that can be disassembled in the middle, allowing the top to be removed. This allows your cat to remain in the familiar bottom portion during the examination.
Creating a Low-Stress Environment: Fear Free Implementation
Every one of our hospitals has Fear Free Certified staff members who have received extensive training in low-stress handling practices for our patients. The aim of the learned skills and tools is to decrease anxiety for pets and their families before, during, and after their appointment. When pets are calm, we can provide higher quality medical care and ensure the safety of our team.
Caring Hands Animal Hospital use the following techniques to support a Fear Free visit for your pet.
