Advanced Imaging for Better Care
Caring Hands Animal Hospital offers both radiology and ultrasound to help diagnose and treat your pet. Ultrasound, or sonography, uses sound waves to create real-time images of your pet’s internal organs, providing a two-dimensional “picture” for the veterinarian.
Radiology (X-rays) is another valuable tool for assessing soft tissues, internal organs, and bones. In many cases, combining digital X-rays and ultrasound gives the most comprehensive evaluation. Digital X-rays show the size, shape, and position of organs, while ultrasound reveals their internal structure. This non-invasive procedure is quick, painless, and well-tolerated by most pets.
Complete Imaging and Diagnostic Care
Ultrasound
Ultrasound, or sonogram, uses sound waves to create detailed images of your pet’s internal organs in real time. This non-invasive tool helps veterinarians examine the heart, liver, gall bladder, spleen, kidneys, pancreas, and bladder, providing a clearer picture of your pet’s health.
For a comprehensive evaluation, digital X-rays are often paired with ultrasounds. X-rays reveal the size, shape, and position of organs, while ultrasound allows a closer look at their internal structure, offering a more complete assessment.
During the procedure, the abdomen may be shaved for better imaging, and a special gel is applied to the skin. The veterinarian then glides the probe over the area, capturing images as they go. Results are typically immediate, though in some cases, images may be sent to a veterinary radiologist for further review.
Most pets tolerate the procedure well without anesthesia, resting comfortably on a soft blanket. If a pet is particularly anxious, a mild sedative may be used to keep them calm.
Ultrasound is invaluable for diagnosing pregnancies, evaluating organ health, and assessing heart function. This gentle, pain-free technique gives veterinarians crucial insights, helping protect and improve your pet’s well-being.
