Hi!  My name is Tilly.  I am a Rat Terrier mix and I love to travel with my mom, Marinda.  I have a new feature on my favorite animal hospital’s blog, where I will be sharing tips from my travels for my fellow canine comrades who also love to explore the world.  Here we go!

Charlottesville, VA

My mom and I went to Charlottesville for a few days to get some fresh air.  We went to James Madison’s Montpelier, Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, and stopped by the Historic Downtown Mall. We also made a quick stop at James Monroe’s Ash Lawn-Highland but we didn’t go in.

Tilly’s Travel Tips:

· James Madison’s Montpelier – Admission to the grounds is free.  Pets are allowed on the grounds, but not allowed in the mansion.

· Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello – $20 admission whether you go into the mansion or not.  Pets are allowed on the grounds, but not allowed in the mansion.  You can take the shuttle up to the mansion and back down.  You have the option to walk the trail to the mansion and back or do some combination of shuttle and walking.  The trail to the mansion is all uphill.  It was a great workout!

· The Historic Downtown Mall – Dog friendly!  My mom thought it was a bit different than what she thought.  The shops weren’t really to her liking.  She said something about it being more for dining.  There is another outdoor shopping center, Barracks Road.  Mom said it is much nicer with both shops and restaurants. We didn’t go there though.  Maybe next time!

· James Monroe’s Ash Lawn-Highland – From the pictures, it didn’t look as nice as Monticello or Montpelier.  It was only 1.5 away from Monticello so mom drove us up there.  We took a peek, and were not too impressed.  I was tired anyway, so we headed home instead.  Stay tuned to see where we go next!
