Fear Free Veterinary Visits

What is Fear Free?

Fear Free is an initiative started by Dr. Marty Becker in 2016.  His vision was to “take the pet out of petrified and get pets back into practices.”  According to the 2014 Bayer Veterinary Healthcare Usage study, 37% of dog owners and 58% of cat owners say their pets hate going to the veterinarian.  In this same study, 26% of dog owners and 38% of cat owners report that just thinking about going to the vet is stressful

Why is Fear Free Important?

Fear free visits result in less stress and trauma for both pets and their families.  Regular veterinary visits will help maintain your pet’s healthy and happy life.  These regular visits will foster early detection and treatment for any issues or diseases.

How is Fear Free Implemented?

Each of our hospitals have Fear Free Certified staff members that have gone through extensive training in best practices to provide a low-stress environment for our patients.  The goal of the skills and tools learned is to reduce anxiety for pets and their families before, during, and after their visit with us.  When pets are calm, the quality of the medicine we can provide is enhanced and the safety of our team is ensured.

Caring Hands Animal Hospitals may utilize the following techniques to support a Fear Free visit for your pet.
