Carole Richards, DVM Co-Owner of Caring Hands Animal Hospital of Merrifield
Dr. Richards, Co-Owner, is a graduate of Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in Ithaca, New York. Originally from Illinois, she has a degree in Biology from Eureka College, the Alma Mater of President Ronald Reagan. Dr. Richards has been practicing in the Northern Virginia area since graduation from veterinary school and has interests in ultrasound and soft tissue surgery. In her free time Dr. Richards and her husband enjoy running. They share their home with 2 dogs (Roofus and George) and 3 cats (Melvin, Bump and Wishbone).
Chris Vanderhoof, DVM
Dr. Vanderhoof, associate veterinarian, was raised in Hopatcong, NJ. He completed an associate degree in veterinary technology and practiced as a veterinary technician prior to completing a bachelor’s degree in animal science at Virginia Tech in 2008. He received his DVM degree at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013 and completed a master’s degree in public health the following fall. In the summer of 2015, Dr. Vanderhoof completed a rotating internship in medicine and surgery with Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in NJ. Dr. Vanderhoof’s veterinary interests include ultrasound, soft tissue surgery, acupuncture, and public health. Interests outside of work include running, the outdoors, and watching movies. Dr. Vanderhoof currently resides in Stafford with his wife, daughter, and their three cats, Tech, Bart, and Annie.
Karen Murphy, DVM Co-owner of Caring Hands Animal Hospital of Merrifield
Dr. Murphy, Co-Owner, is a graduate of Auburn University. She did a post graduate internship at Angel Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston, MA. She practiced in North Carolina’s Piedmont region for 5 years before joining Caring Hands Animal Hospital. She has been a part of the Caring Hands family for over 10 years beginning at our Centreville office for 5 years and then opening the Bristow location in 2005. Her interests include preventative medicine, internal medicine, surgery and ultrasound.
Kimberly Madigan, DVM
Dr. Madigan, associate veterinarian, grew up in western Massachusetts and attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst where she completed her bachelors degree in animal science/pre-vet. Dr. Madigan received her veterinary degree from the University of Glasgow, Scotland in 2014. Dr. Madigan completed a small animal rotating internship at the New England Animal Medical Center in West Bridgewater, MA. She moved to Virginia in 2015 and joined our practice in 2017. Her special interests include internal medicine, oncology, soft tissue surgery and preventative medicine.
Dr. Madigan shares her home with her two lovely cats Sophie and Gus. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, traveling, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.
